Friends coordinate educational activities for children in the school holidays and run workshops for adults. The Gardens are also valued as a place of learning and opportunities for practical experience for vocational students of Horticulture, as well as University students undertaking studies in Environmental Science.

Botanica Quest workshops … ‘Dare to Discover’ and ‘NaturePlay Missions’ gives children the opportunity to explore and discover the amazing plants and animals in the Gardens. ‘Kids in Conservation’ is focused on developing skills and understanding of the natural environment.
Little Nature Lovers is aimed at Preschoolers 3 – 5 years old and their carers. Have fun finding out about Nature and doing lots of interesting activities along the way! The program is on third Thursday of the month starting in July 2021 from 10:00am – 11:00am and going through until June 2022. Bookings are essential. There are no activities in December and January. Meet at the Rotary Education Pavilion on the Mangrove to Mountains Walk just before 10:00am. Sponsored by with Naturally GC. At special events, various children’s activities include Nature Arts and Crafts, as well as Discovery Trails are presented by Friends.

Displays at the Friends Centre feature interesting information and opportunities to look more closely at various botanical themes.
All these facets of education provided within the Botanic Gardens assist visitors to gain a greater understanding, appreciation and respect for the natural environment.

Botanic Gardens Education Program is a hands-on, outdoor program available during term time for primary school students. It aligns with the National School Curriculum in Science, History and Geography.
