Volunteer Gardeners & The Nursery

Assist Botanic Gardens staff with gardening duties including pruning, mulching and planting. Also assist with co-ordination of community planting events. Volunteers meet every Wednesday 6:30 – 8:30am Oct – Mar; 7:30 – 9:30am Apr - Sep. Friends Nursery volunteers propagate regional plants for the Gardens, and to raise funds through plant sales. Volunteers meet every Friday from 7a.m at the Nursery.

Herbarium

Herbarium

Collect, press and mount a collection of regional plant specimens in the GCRBG Herbarium. The collection includes specimens from within the Gardens and from SE Queensland. Meets on Tuesday 8:00am - 11:00am; Saturday 9:00am - 12noon

Volunteer Guides & Presentations

Provide free regular guided walks and tours to help visitors experience the Gardens. Specialist group tours can be organised for a small fee. Walks are available on 1st Sunday and 3rd Wednesday of the month starting at the Friends Centre. Speakers with knowledge about the Gardens can be organised for outside community groups. A small fee is charged for private group tours and presentations.

Children’s Activities

Friends present ‘Botanica Quest’ and 'Kids in Conservation’ for 4-14 year-olds during school holidays. Children can experience nature based displays at the Friends Centre.

SMART Gardeners

SMART Gardeners

Trained gardening volunteers advise schools and community groups with gardening projects and partner with secondary and vocational educational institutions to provide ‘hands-on’ horticultural experiences.

Friends volunteers create botanically inspired articles and uniquely Australian floral arrangements for sale at the Friends Centre or at special events.

Climate Watch

As part of a national program, Friends monitor a range of plant, bird, butterfly species at the Botanic Gardens. Bird monitoring every Tuesday at 9:00am.
