Friends Gardening Group works with the Council’s Botanic Gardens team in all areas of the Botanic Gardens but focuses mainly on the regional native plant beds located in the Mangroves to Mountains zones, as well as new plantings, and regularly assists with the Rosser heritage garden.
As the Plant Collection grows and the area under cultivation expands, the Friends team is very busy assisting Council staff with the Living Collection.
Friends Gardeners enthusiastically engage in their regular weekly sessions including planting, watering, pruning, spreading mulch and removing weeds. Sometimes they also assist with trimming or removing excessive native plant growth that negatively impacts paths or adjacent plants, in order to improve the impact of all plants in the Living Collection.
The reward is enjoying their handiwork with their splendid refreshments when work is done.
